The Links Series - 'The Seasons'

Twenty miles west of the capital city Edinburgh, Scotland lies a unique area of golfing terrain, comprising some of the most outstanding links courses in the world. The county of East Lothian boasts at least 20 courses including the world's oldest 9-hole course at Musselburgh, the mighty Open championship course, Muirfield, and several qualifying clubs within easy reach. Spread around the town of Gullane, with its breathtaking views of the Firth of Forth, are 8 courses with Luffness and Gullane to the west, Muirfield to the east and North Berwick five miles beyond, with the newest addition of Archerfield between. It is within this area that this series of paintings was inspired and painted mostly in the vicinity of Gullane Hill, at the very heart of the links land.

The Spring Meeting

A mixed foursome putt out on Gullance Hill and linger a while. The warm westerly breeze heralds the arrival of spring and the broom blossom fills the landscape with a sweet scent. To the north the Paps of Fife are reflected in the calm waters of the Firth of Forth.
