Ask to name the best course in Great Britain, or perhaps the world, and the answer is likely to be Muirfield. Purely in shape and balance, the course has everything to offer the golfer. Designed by the legendary Tom Morris in 1891, the club of The Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers was formed in 1744, giving it convincing sonority with depths of tradition.
Muirfield has staged many outstanding Open championships over 14 occasions and is regarded as the fairest test of links play. The last 9 holes with lightening fast greens and dozen of pot bunkers, can wreck the stoutest heart and/or reward the most courageous. To play golf on a summer's day across such links is, for the purist, the closest thing to heaven.
